NBCC, while carrying out its operation, has always remained upfront in responding to cause of the society at large meeting many obligations, Apart from financially contributing to initiatives of many NGOs and Institutions involved in upliftment and development of the poor, needy section of the society that run into lakhs of Rupees annually, the Corporation has been actively engaging itself as a catalyst to the development of Country's backward and remote areas. It also always responds to the call of the Government of India and the State Governments for rehabilitation works at various places and for the people affected by natural calamities.
The policy on Corporate Social Responsibility has been incorporated by the Corporation in its 5 - year Corporate Plan for the period 2007 - 2012. As per the said policy NBCC has shouldered the following social responsibilities :-
To work in remote areas where other construction agencies shy away from taking up projects for upliftment of socio economic status of the locals.
Re - construction of infrastructure in areas devastated by natural calamities.
Infrastructure projects for benefit of the larger section of society in under developed areas.
Works relating to National Security.
Water Supply Distribution System.
Some of the CSR activities undertaken by the Corporation are as under :-
Construction of schools, dispensaries, community centers etc. in the earthquake affected areas of Gujarat and cyclone affected areas in Orissa on no profit basis. NBCC has also associated itself to the Central Government projects for the Rehabilitation of Tsunami affected people.
Construction of Community Centre and shelters for providing immediate relief to the people of Jammu & Kashmir affected by devastating earthquake.
Development of Rural Roads in underdeveloped and remote areas under "PRADHAN MANTRI GRAM SADAK YOJANA" in Bihar & Tripura.
Development of Slum and Rural Roads in North Eastern States.
Border Fencing in Indo-Bangladesh Border & Indo-Pak Border areas.
Laying of water supply heavy mains between Muradnagar (UP) to Sonia Vihar (Delhi) for supply of drinking water to East and South Delhi.
Placement of 21 Nos. of Physically challenged personnel on the rolls of the organization.
Corporation is also maintaining an exclusive Project Management Division for liaison with concerned Ministries and the State Governments for monitoring of the projects. Further, NBCC is also having a full fledged Vigilance Division headed by C.V.O., Hindi Cell, Quality Control Cell as a part of compliance to the requirement of a Government Organisation which are not maintained by any private Organisation. The Corporation is incurring expenditure to the tune of Rs.8.00 crores per annum towards such services.
Responding to its commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility on undertaking infrastructure development works, NBCC, in addition, has undertaken the following projects with losses or with a meagre margin.
270 Cusec Raw Water Pipeline from Muradnagar to Sonia Vihar, Delhi was completed with heavy losses to the tune of Rs.20.00 Crore.NBCC could have worked out of the project at the time when the clients, UP Jal Nigam/Delhi Jal Board revised/changed the scope of the work without giving any additional financial cost to NBCC. But NBCC decided to complete the project as it was to provide drinking water to citizens of Delhi.
NBCC has taken development works in North Eastern Region at a meager margin while state agencies are operating in the region @ 23%.
NBCC is recruiting Diploma holders from North Eastern States in a special drive to provide job opportunity to the local youths.
